**Press Release: Verdict in Jacob Spray Case**
On January 23, 2024, a Whitman County jury reached a verdict in the case of Jacob Spray, 36, who was found guilty of the murder and assault of his estranged wife, Jamie Spray. The jury deliberated for four hours before delivering their decision.
The incident leading to the charges occurred on March 26, 2024, when Pullman Police were called to check on Jamie Spray’s welfare after her job interviewer reported hearing a struggle during their phone conversation. Jamie had recently moved out of her shared residence with Jacob and was staying in a camper trailer at Sevdy’s mobile home park.
Upon arrival at the trailer, police found Jamie unresponsive with injuries consistent with assault. Despite efforts from paramedics to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Jacob Spray was located at his residence and engaged in a struggle with law enforcement during his arrest. He attempted to flee and reportedly tried to seize an officer’s weapon. Law enforcement utilized a Taser to subdue him, and he was subsequently taken into custody, treated for minor injuries, and released from the hospital.
Jacob Spray’s trial, noted as the first murder case in Pullman since 2015, commenced on January 13, 2024. He now faces a sentencing range of 20 to 26.5 years in prison.
