The City of Pullman has announced that the police department will cooperate with federal authorities regarding deportations when requested.
The city issued a press release addressing the deportation efforts related to federal immigration policies. The statement emphasizes that Pullman Police Officers are committed to upholding the Constitution of the United States, as well as the laws of the State of Washington and city ordinances. It clarifies that the Pullman PD will assist federal law enforcement if asked, while maintaining a focus on community policing. Additionally, Washington state law prohibits local law enforcement from detaining individuals solely to investigate their immigration status and from sharing non-criminal information with federal authorities concerning immigration status. The statement underscores that the role of local police officers is not influenced by political considerations.
