The second annual WSU/UW Apple Cup Food Pantry Challenge is currently taking place, encouraging fans from both universities to contribute to campus food pantries before the deadline of midnight on September 20. This initiative aims to assist students in need.

Last year, WSU emerged victorious in the food challenge, providing an opportunity for Cougs to demonstrate their commitment to addressing hunger issues.

Ben Calabretta, director of the Center for Civic Engagement, noted the enthusiasm surrounding last year’s event. “Many people remember WSU’s success in the competition, and with broader participation from all campuses this year, we anticipate increased involvement.”

In the previous challenge, nearly $20,000 was raised collectively, with WSU contributing more than $17,000.

With a significant number of college students experiencing food insecurity across the United States, food pantries are facing challenges in meeting the rising demand.

Support for campus food pantries is crucial in combating hunger among students.
