Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) has announced the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Moscow, Idaho. The global company, headquartered in Pullman, plans to build a 150,000 square foot electronic device manufacturing plant on the southern campus of Moscow, adjacent to SEL’s existing circuit board factory, which opened two years ago. The project represents an investment of $50 million and is projected to enhance the company’s manufacturing capabilities, with completion expected in 2027, according to a press release from SEL.

In addition to the Moscow facility, SEL is also exploring expansion opportunities for its facilities in Boise, Idaho, and Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to SEL Founder Dr. Ed Schweitzer, the decision regarding company growth is influenced by the SEL Index of Freedom. This annual ranking evaluates all 50 states based on criteria including government efficiency, regulatory freedom, and energy resiliency. In the latest ranking, Idaho was placed 4th, while Washington was ranked 35th.

SEL specializes in the design and manufacturing of digital relays and control systems used in the power industry globally.
