A 4.7-mile hiking challenge is scheduled for September 20 at Spud Hill in Deary, with proceeds benefiting Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3913 in Kendrick. Registration will begin at 8:30 am at Deary City Park, and the event is set to start at 10:00 am.
Participants in the challenge are required to carry a minimum of 25 pounds in packs or weighted vests, and teams can consist of 2 to 10 members navigating various checkpoints along the route. Children under the age of 15 are exempt from the weight requirements, and parents carrying infants in harnesses are also not required to carry additional weight.
Entry fees are structured as follows: $25 for adults, $20 for veterans and active military personnel with ID, $10 for children under 10, and $10 for those attending the BBQ only. Awards will be presented for categories including fastest time with weight, heaviest pack, and best team theme.
This event is designed to be family-friendly and will take place regardless of weather conditions. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water and snacks. A BBQ will be held starting at 11:00 am, following the completion of the hiking challenge.
