The trial for George Melvin Harris III, charged with felony 1st degree manslaughter, is currently taking place in Whitman County Superior Court. Harris, 26, is accused of fatally shooting his 23-year-old roommate, Liban Barre, in September 2021. He also reportedly shot Brandon Gray, a former Washington State University football player, who sustained serious injuries but did not cooperate with investigators. This lack of cooperation led to no charges being filed against Harris for the incident involving Gray.
The shooting occurred near a large party on College Hill. Harris has claimed that he acted in self-defense. Following an extensive investigation by the Pullman Police Department, charges were filed in June of the previous year. The trial is expected to continue throughout the week.
