Neill Public Library will host a talk by film and literature scholar Lance Rhoades on Wednesday, September 24, at 6:00 pm. The focus of the discussion will be on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life and the legacy of his 1925 novel “The Great Gatsby.”
Rhoades will examine Fitzgerald’s perception of his writing career, particularly how he believed he had not succeeded, despite the recognition that his novel has received as a significant work representing the Roaring Twenties and the Jazz Age.
Lance Rhoades is a scholar of Comparative Literature and Cinema Studies at the University of Washington, where he has been awarded for excellence in teaching. He has delivered cultural history talks internationally and currently serves as Program Director for the Mercer Island Library and Arts Council.
