Crime reported in Whitman County experienced a decline in 2024 when compared to the previous year, 2023, according to the annual statistics released by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office responded to 4% fewer crime reports last year. Notable decreases were observed in incidents of theft and car theft. However, drug-related cases increased significantly, with deputies addressing nearly twice as many narcotics cases in 2024 compared to the previous year.
The Pullman Police Department reported a 16% decrease in crime for the same period, with significant reductions in incidents of rape, aggravated assault, and theft. In contrast, drug-related cases in Pullman surged by over 50%, and there was also a noted rise in burglaries.
The Washington State University Police Department recorded a substantial 37% drop in crime last year, largely attributed to significant reductions in simple assaults, burglaries, and thefts.
