Two local attorneys have submitted their applications for the position of Magistrate Judge in Nez Perce County, located in Lewiston. The applicants are Kelley Porter, a staff attorney for the Nez Perce County District Court based in Genesee, and Floyd Swanton, who serves as Vice President-Legal for Lightcast in Moscow. In total, there are seven candidates vying for this judgeship.

This vacancy arose following the appointment of Sunil Ramalingam to the position of Latah County Magistrate Judge in Moscow. Ramalingam succeeded former Magistrate Judge Megan Marshall, who was elevated to district court judge by Governor Brad Little. The vacancy at the Latah County Second District Court was created by the retirement of Judge John Judge in January.

The Idaho Second Judicial District Magistrates Commission is responsible for selecting the new magistrate judge in Lewiston.
