Fire crews were actively engaged on Tuesday, responding to two wildland fires in Latah County that necessitated temporary evacuations.
The first incident occurred around 2:00 PM on Lamb Road, south of Troy, where the fire expanded to 80 acres before being contained. Evacuation orders were lifted by 5:00 PM. Crews from the Idaho Department of Lands remained on-site overnight to monitor and extinguish remaining hot spots. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation, with initial responders including volunteers from the Troy and Moscow Rural Fire Departments.
Simultaneously, another fire, known as the Cuatro Fire, ignited on the north side of Moscow Mountain. This fire started around 5:30 PM on Four Mile Road, east of Viola. Several crews were redirected from the Lamb Fire to assist Potlatch Volunteer Firefighters in controlling the Cuatro Fire, which burned approximately five acres before being swiftly contained. Aerial support was provided by helicopters, while a bulldozer created a fire line around the perimeter. The response involved Moscow Rural Fire Department Volunteers, IDL, and the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association. IDL crews also remained on-site overnight for hot spot management. A hand crew is scheduled to continue mop-up efforts today. The Cuatro Fire prompted a brief evacuation of nearby residents as well.
