The University of Idaho has revised its plan for the Innovative Agriculture and Marketing Partnership grant, which is the largest grant in the institution’s history at 59 million dollars, to align with updated spending regulations from the USDA.

Last year, the university was awarded the grant, but new rules enacted by the Trump Administration mandated that at least 65% of the funds be allocated directly to farmers. The university’s original proposal did not meet these criteria, leading to the termination of the grant, although the USDA allowed the institution to reapply for funding.

In response, the university has submitted a new proposal that allocates 39 million dollars, or 66% of the total budget, directly to Idaho farmers, thus complying with the USDA’s requirements. The university aims to use the grant to promote sustainable agricultural practices among Idaho farmers.
