The United Way of Whitman County is marking three years of promoting literacy among young readers in the Palouse through its collaboration with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Since its initiation in April 2020, the United Way has provided nearly 25,000 free books to over 1,300 children across 19 communities. The program also ensures that approximately 950 children receive a new age-appropriate book delivered to their mailbox each month.
Support for the United Way comes from enrollment volunteers, local businesses, and various organizations. Additionally, the State of Washington has contributed funding by matching 50% of the monthly book and mailing costs for affiliates of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
To contribute to the initiatives of United Way, donations can be made at WhitmanUnited.org. For those interested in enrolling a child in the Imagination Library program, an application can be submitted through their website.
