The University of Idaho Department of Theatre Arts is hosting free virtual readings of two student-written plays as part of the First Bite New Play Series from October 3 to October 5.

The first play, “Slingtown,” is written by Abigail Thomson and directed by Daniel Lee White. It tells the story of a teenage pinball prodigy in 1970s Indiana who is advocating for the legalization of pinball, a game that has been banned. The readings for this play are scheduled for 5:00 PM on Friday, October 3, and 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 4.

The second play, “Polyhedral,” written by D.S. Levy and directed by Alana Rader, delves into themes of friendship and mental health during a Dungeons and Dragons night, particularly focusing on the situation when the dungeon master goes missing. The readings for this play will occur at 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, and 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 5.

Robert Caisley, the chair of the Theatre Arts Department, emphasized the importance of audience feedback in the play development process, noting that creating a new play is an engaging and dynamic experience.

All readings will be conducted via Zoom, and interested participants can register at linktr.ee/uidahotheatre.
