The University of Idaho will unveil a bronze statue of its mascot, Joe Vandal, at 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 8. The statue will be located between ICCU Arena and P1FCU Kibbie Dome. This unveiling recognizes the long-standing support from students for campus facilities, particularly the P1FCU Kibbie Dome, where the Associated Students of the University of Idaho made a significant contribution in 1974 by voting to allocate student fees for improvements, including adding a roof to the dome.

The event will coincide with the Vandal Tailgate before the football game against UC Davis, set to begin at 4:00 pm.

U of I President Scott Green noted, “While leaning into the future, Vandals honor decades of student support,” indicating that the statue represents a commitment to remembering the history of contributions made by the student body.

The statue, crafted by artist Gareth Curtiss, weighs around 2,000 pounds and stands over 9 feet tall on a 5-foot-wide base. Curtiss worked with U of I students, alumni, and community members during the crafting process. He previously visited the university campus in February to create a clay model, or maquette, of the monument. This project acknowledges the ASUI’s legacy of support for essential campus facilities and will be positioned near both the Kibbie Dome and ICCU Idaho Arena.
