The USDA has designated Latah and Whitman counties as primary natural disaster areas due to drought conditions reported by the US Drought Monitor during the recent growing season.

This designation allows the USDA Farm Service Agency to offer emergency loans to producers affected by the drought.

These loans can assist with various recovery needs, including the replacement of livestock or equipment, reorganization of farming operations, and refinancing of certain debts.

The FSA will evaluate loan applications based on the extent of losses, available security, and the applicant’s repayment ability.

The deadline for submitting applications for these emergency relief loans is March 16, 2026. Interested individuals can find more information on how to apply.
