A fire occurred on Estes Road south of Palouse on Monday afternoon, briefly threatening a trailer home. Volunteers from Whitman County Fire District 4 responded to the incident around 5:00 PM. The fire burned under an acre of land, damaging a chicken coop and a tree. According to Assistant Chief Joe Handley, the fire started when a juvenile lit a burn pile and left it unattended, which allowed the flames to spread.
