The Washington Climate Corps Network has allocated $1,172,000 in grants to eight community-based organizations focused on addressing climate change in the state. One of the recipients, the Phoenix Conservancy, plans to utilize the funds for a project aimed at implementing biochar production in the Palouse region. This initiative seeks to tackle agricultural challenges related to wildfires and drought.
Biochar is a carbon-rich material that, when incorporated into soil, can help conserve water, lower soil acidity, and sequester carbon for extended periods. The Phoenix Conservancy intends to provide services for local residents to collect organic waste, which will be used in the biochar production process.
