The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is considering the acquisition of a pond in Whitman County that is accessible to public fishing.
The department is currently reviewing a proposal to purchase Pampa Pond, located on State Route 26 near LaCrosse. This review is part of the agency’s annual program aimed at assessing potential land purchases to maintain outdoor recreational areas.
The potential acquisition would involve approximately 30 acres surrounding Pampa Pond. Official documents do not specify the current ownership of the site. This man-made pond traditionally opens for fishing on March 1st each year.
Officials from the department are inviting public input regarding the proposed purchase of Pampa Pond. The public comment period will remain open until November 26th, with comments to be submitted via email to [email protected]. Should the acquisition proceed, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife plans to seek grant funding to facilitate the purchase.
