The Washington State Patrol will be conducting emphasis patrols from November 20 to 30 on routes frequently used by WSU students during the Thanksgiving break.
During this period, officers will be monitoring for speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, and other violations that can lead to collisions.
Increased enforcement will be observed on State Routes 26 and 17, as well as Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass, specifically in Adams, Grant, and Kittitas counties.
Motorists are encouraged to adhere to posted speed limits and stay alert to changing road and weather conditions.
Captain Daniel Richmond, the WSP District 6 Commander, highlighted the importance of safety during the holiday season, stating, “Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family and friends. Let’s all get to where we need to be safely to enjoy the holiday.”
Students traveling throughout the state are advised to prepare their vehicles for winter conditions. This includes equipping emergency kits with essentials such as water, food, blankets, winter clothing, and flares.
It is also crucial for drivers to check vehicle fluids, ensure batteries are in good condition, and confirm that tires and chains are suitable for travel over mountain passes. Up-to-date road and weather conditions can be checked on the WSDOT website.
