Whitman County Fire District 12 responded to two wildfires on Sunday.
The first incident was reported around 5:00 PM along the Chipman Trail near the Moscow-Pullman Highway. Fire crews managed to contain the fire to less than an acre, which resulted in damage to some trees. The cause of this fire remains undetermined, though it occurred in proximity to a previous fire that damaged a trail bridge two years ago.
Later that night, around 10:00 PM, D12 Volunteers attended to a grass fire near Fire Station 3 in North Pullman. This fire affected approximately one acre of grass and brush, but there was no damage to the fire station itself. Witnesses reported seeing fireworks being discharged in the area shortly before the fire ignited, leading D12 to investigate the potential link between the fireworks and the start of the fire.
