The Whitman County Library is initiating its annual ‘Food for Fines’ drive, starting this weekend. This program allows library patrons to donate canned or boxed non-perishable food items and toiletries in exchange for waiving up to $10 in any outstanding library fines.

For every unopened, unexpired item donated, $1 will be forgiven in library overdue fees.

Even if patrons do not have overdue fees, the library encourages donations, which will be used to assist others by forgiving their fines.

All collected items will be distributed to the food bank that serves the respective community.

Donations can be made at all 14 library branches during regular hours from Saturday, February 1 to Friday, February 28.
