The repaving of U.S. Highway 195 near Pullman has been halted due to a strike by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced that the strike has interrupted the repaving work, which involves a nine-mile stretch of US195 from State Route 27 south of Pullman to Babbitt Road north of the town.
The project, which began earlier this month, was contracted to Poe Asphalt for a cost of 3.5 million dollars and was scheduled to be completed by late September. The work was primarily planned for evenings, resulting in significant overnight traffic delays, while daytime work involved guardrail installation that contributed to some disruptions.
WSDOT officials have indicated that the strike has also impacted daytime construction, leading to a current absence of traffic delays on US195. As of now, there has been no response from union officials regarding the situation, and other local highway construction projects in the Palouse area remain unaffected by the strike.
