Researchers at Washington State University’s Department of Psychology are conducting a study to explore the relationship between temperature variations and their impact on emotions, energy levels, and cognitive abilities. They are seeking participants from the community who meet the following criteria:
– Individuals over the age of 50
– Fluent in English
– Capable of participating in Zoom meetings
– Not diagnosed with dementia
The study involves several tasks for participants, including:
1. An initial telephone interview lasting 30-60 minutes to assess eligibility.
2. Reviewing a consent form and completing an Activity Routine Interview.
3. Engaging in standardized testing for memory and cognition, which will take approximately 90 to 120 minutes, both at the beginning and the end of the study.
4. Setting up home temperature monitoring devices and motion detectors.
5. Wearing a smartwatch for two weeks and responding to prompts on the device four times per day.
6. Completing a series of questionnaires regarding physical and mental health, cognitive abilities, and environmental quality.
Participants will receive compensation for their involvement: $50 for pre-testing, $100 for smartwatch prompts, and $50 for post-testing.
