**Title: WSU Proposes Parking Rate Increases**

Washington State University (WSU) is proposing adjustments to parking rates on campus, with plans for increases that are lower than those implemented three years ago.

The WSU Parking and Transportation Task Force is currently reviewing parking rates as the previous set of fees is set to expire. In 2022, the task force raised parking rates by approximately 25% over a three-year period, a move influenced by an extended period without increases and rising inflation rates. The new proposal suggests a maximum increase of 3% per year over the next three years, starting July 1st. If the proposal is approved, the highest annual parking permit for the orange lots would see an increase of around $30 annually, reaching just under $1,100 by fiscal year 2028. Additionally, hourly parking rates would increase by about 12 cents each year, reaching $4.37 in fiscal year 2028.

WSU has allocated $4.5 million for parking maintenance projects on the Pullman campus over the next three years. The parking department operates on a self-sustaining model, funded entirely by parking fees and fines. WSU has a policy in place to limit parking rate increases to either 3% per year or the Consumer Price Index (CPI), whichever is lower.

The task force is currently accepting public comments regarding the proposed rate increases until February 16th. Comments can be sent via email to [email protected]. The task force will review all feedback before making a final decision on the rate adjustments.
