Washington State University President Betsy Cantwell has announced the dismissal of Anne McCoy from her position as Cougar Athletics Director.

The university will begin a national search to find McCoy’s successor. In the meantime, Athletics Chief Operating Officer Jon Haarlow has been appointed as the interim Athletics Director.

McCoy joined Cougar Athletics in 2001, starting as the associate director of athletics. She was promoted to permanent Athletics Director in June of the previous year, after initially taking on the role on an interim basis in March 2024. This followed Pat Chun’s appointment to the Athletics Director position at the University of Washington.

This decision marks another administrative change under Cantwell’s leadership since she assumed the role of WSU President last winter.
