A jury has found a 24-year-old Washington State University student guilty of raping a female student inside his apartment.

The Whitman County Superior Court jury delivered a guilty verdict against Isaac Andrade on Friday afternoon. Andrade was convicted of felony 3rd degree rape after being charged with two counts of the same crime.

The incident occurred in November 2023, following a meeting at a fraternity party at WSU. Andrade and the victim went to his apartment to watch a movie, where the assault took place while the victim was incapacitated. She subsequently sought help from a neighboring apartment and contacted Pullman Police. During the trial, the victim provided testimony regarding the events. Whitman County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Tessa Scholl represented the state and acknowledged the victim’s bravery in disclosing the assault and testifying, emphasizing that her courage was crucial for holding Andrade accountable.

Scholl plans to request the maximum sentence of one year in jail for Andrade, as Washington state law limits the sentencing range for this case to between 6 and 12 months. Following the sentencing, Andrade will be required to register as a sex offender, be placed on probation, and a sexual assault protection order will be in effect against him for five years.

Andrade’s sentencing is scheduled for July 18th. He remains listed as a WSU student on the university’s website. The trial commenced the previous Monday.
