Washington State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital has announced a $10 million commitment from Heidi Charleson and her late husband, Lou Woodworth. This donation aims to fund scholarships, community care initiatives, and improvements to facilities.

The funds will be allocated towards renovations and expansion of the Emergency and Critical Care unit at the Pullman Veterinary Teaching Hospital, as well as establishing an equipment fund for the unit. In addition, the donation will create the Woodworth and Bustad Scholarship for students pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.

Furthermore, the contribution will establish the Charleson and Woodworth Good Samaritan Fund, designed to assist with healthcare costs for animals without owners and for pet owners who are unable to afford necessary veterinary procedures or medications.

Dr. Dori Borjesson, dean of WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine, commented on the comprehensive nature of the gift, emphasizing its potential impact on supporting animal welfare and education for veterinary students. The donation aims to enhance educational opportunities for students, support faculty, expand infrastructure, and improve access to veterinary care within the region.
