A significant number of candidate filings on Friday morning has resulted in 15 individuals running for three positions on the Pullman City Council, indicating a busy August primary.
James Pitzer has entered the race for the position currently held by Trymaine Gaither. Other candidates for that seat include Randy Cross, Cindy Kothandaraman, Bryan MacDonald, and John-Mark Mahnkey. These five will compete in the primary.
William McGaughey also filed on Friday morning for the seat held by Carla De Lira. He will join DiDi Lubash, Andie Lee Freeman, Trevor Vance, and Edwin Gianini in the primary.
In a separate race, Michele Utzman, Frederico Bartolo III, Tom Thompson, and Tawny Szumlas filed for the position currently held by Megan Guido. They will compete alongside V. Shae Ortega in the primary.
Additionally, a primary has been set for the Pullman School Board seat held by Chair Nathan Roberts. Deena Bayoumi filed for that seat on Friday and will face Ben Emerson and Hannah Martian in the primary.
The two candidates with the highest votes in these races in August will advance to the November general election. Candidate filing will conclude on Friday at 5:00 PM through the Whitman County Auditor’s Office in Colfax.
